CNH INDUSTRIAL SUPPORTS NATIONAL ENERGY SAVING DAY IN ITALY

Turin, February 23, 2017

On Tuesday 21 and Friday 24 February, which is designated as Italy’s National Day of Energy Saving and Sustainable Lifestyles, ambient temperatures are being measured in all Italian offices and open spaces belonging to CNH Industrial (NYSE: CNHI / MI: CNHI). The measurements are being taken by the staff themselves: over 2,000 thermometers have been given to 6,800 employees to perform the task, giving them an active role in monitoring the temperature of their workplaces.

The main aim of the initiative, which covers all of the company’s 1,500 individual offices and 500 shared offices in Italy, is to encourage employees to cut energy consumption by managing the temperature in their workplaces (and at home). It also promotes compliance with Italian law, which stipulates a temperature for offices of 20°C, with a tolerance of 2°C, in winter. Besides helping to save energy, raising awareness also contributes to the reduction of air pollution and health problems derived from the variance between outdoor and indoor temperatures.

It is a well-known fact that heating of both residential and occupational buildings is a major source of energy consumption. According to a study conducted in 27 European countries (including Italy) by Eurac Research, a specialized energy research institute based in Bolzano, heating accounts for 70% of energy used in offices, compared with just 30% for other uses such as cooling, hot water, lighting, and electrical equipment. In residential buildings, heating accounts for nearly 80% of energy usage.

By empowering its Italian workforce with the responsibility to check and regulate the temperature of its offices, CNH Industrial has captured the spirit of participation and sharing of the "M'illumino meno" initiative promoted by Rai Radio 2, as epitomized by the campaign’s hashtag #CondiVivo (a play on words that approximates to "I share/I live"). The move also underlines CNH Industrial’s commitment to sustainable practices, which has secured the Company the title of Industry Leader in the Dow Jones Sustainability World and Europe Indices for the sixth consecutive year.
