NEW HOLLAND CELEBRATES THREE AGRITECHNICA MEDAL
New Holland's continuous efforts to innovate and develop ground-breaking products have paid dividends at one of Europe's leading agricultural machinery exhibitions with the company picking up one Gold and two Silver Medals for Innovation at Germany's Agritechnica 2003.
The company's award-winning CR range of rotary combines has added a Gold Medal to the Silver it picked up at SIMA 2003 in February and the award for Technical Excellence received in March 2003 at FIMA in Spain. The judges commended its innovative two-rotor threshing and separating system and 'ASD: Advanced Stone Detection' system, which work together to ensure excellent quality of the harvested grain.
The cut crop reaches the threshing system via the CR's specially designed straw elevator. This features the ASD system, which uses sophisticated electronics and acoustic sensors to analyse the sounds of the flowing crop for the concussion of stones.
If a stone is detected, the New Holland ASD system automatically opens a trap door beneath the straw elevator and triggers a deflector plate to eject the stone. Once the foreign object has been removed, the operator raises and lowers the header to reset the system and continue harvesting.
The straw elevator feeds the crop smoothly into the front section of the CR's two longitudinal rotors, where it is divided in two streams and starts its rotary action. As the crop spirals rearwards, the two rotors, turning in opposite directions, generate high centrifugal forces providing unmatched threshing and separating capacity.
Effective even in moist, green crops, the controlled crop-flow through the threshing and separating system has proved itself to be much more gentle to the crop, reducing the amount of broken grain and damaged straw.
New Holland's conventional combines are also represented in the awards with the CS range picking up a Silver Medal for its Opti-ThreshTM system. As well as enabling tool-free alteration of the concave wrap angle between 85° and 121°, the rear third of the concave can be adjusted to pivot toward or away from the drum to accommodate varying threshing conditions. This provides for a more gentle transfer of the straw between the threshing cylinder and the concave, preserving the straw quality for baling, even where it is dry and brittle.
Also picking up a Silver Medal for the company is the Fast-SteerTM system available on New Holland's recently launched TS-A tractor range. With no compromise on safety, this system enables - at the touch of a thumb - switchover from conventional mode steering to a fast steering (joystick) mode. This saves the driver lots of turning and cranking the steering wheel. This not only reduces headland time losses, but also enables higher front-loader loading capacities.
The Agritechnica Innovations Commission, which judges the entries, awarded seven Gold Medals and 31 Silver Medals out of a total of 250 entries submitted. In addition to the experts from the fields of science, research and consultancy who have made up the judging panel in the past, farmers were also represented this year to give more weight to the requirements of practical farming.
New Holland's medal-winning products, as well as representatives from its baler and forage harvester ranges, will be on show in Hall 5, Stand A37 at Agritechnica 2003. The exhibition takes place at Hanover, Germany, from November 9-15, 2003.
Notes to editors
The judges select products that are to be awarded a Gold or Silver Medal on the basis of strict criteria from among all company innovations notified to them before the competition's closing date.
Gold Medals for Innovations are awarded for products with a concept showing new functions or which can essentially improve known processes. The following aspects are crucial for the award of a Gold Medal:
· Importance for practical application;
· Advantages for farm and labour management;
· Improvement of the environmental and energy situation;
· Effects facilitating work and safety at work.
Silver Medals for Innovations are awarded for products that have been developed further in such a fashion that an essential improvement of the function or process may be expected. However, the product does not totally satisfy the criteria for the award of a Gold Medal for Innovations. The following aspects are crucial for the award of a Silver Medal:
· Importance for practical application;
· Advantages in work performance;
· Improvement of operational reliability.
